About Friends of NoMa Dogs (FOND)
Who We Are
Friends of NoMa Dogs (FOND) is a 501(c)3 charitable organization charged with the care and maintenance of NoMa’s first dog park, Swampoodle Park. As a non-profit organization, FOND is able to accept tax-deductible donations from both individuals and local businesses. FOND works closely with DC Department of Parks and Recreation, to maintain the park, coordinate regular cleanings and maintain park structures.
The NoMaBid Park Foundation (NPF) is working to increase green space in the NoMa neighborhood. After the purchase of the lot at 3rd and L St NE, NPF reached out to a ragtag band of neighbors who were active in both the community and the guerilla dog park at 2nd & L St NE. This guerilla group of activists created FOND.
FOND was incorporated as a non-profit with the help of Nixon Peabody’s pro-bono services. FOND is registered as a 501(c)3 with the IRS and as a non-profit entity with the District of Columbia (DC). This allows us to accept tax-deductible donations and fulfills the requirement that dog parks be cared for by the community.
Our board meetings are open to the public, if you’d like to get involved please contact us.
